I have been making this pie since the 7th grade. Nutella is one of those foods that is juts universally liked (unless you have a nut allergy, then stay away). This recipe is perfectly sweet, creamy and easy.
How do I make Nutella Pie?
- Nutella: Duh the main ingredient. Nutella is a chocolate hazelnut spread, originated in Italy. Think Ferrero Rocher blended into a creamy spread. You can essentially substitute this for any nut butter or spread. Peanut butter, almond butter, I think this would be amazing with pistachio cream (recipe soon?).
- Cream Cheese: This adds the rich creaminess to the pie and also gives it integrity. Without cream cheese, the pie will not hold and just be pudding. Take out the cream cheese to bring it to room temperature 1-2 hours before preparing the pie filling.
- Cool Whip: This will add fluffiness to the pie. Basically counteracting all of the richness you get from the cream cheese. Since cool whip is so processed and filled with oil, it won’t deflate when you whisk it too much.
- Powdered Sugar: You only need a bit of this to add some sweetness. If you don’t have powdered sugar, add your regular sugar to a blender to make powdered sugar π
- OREO Pie Crust: This pie crust really ties together the chocolate flavor. You can also make your own crust by adding the OREO cookies (no cream) to a food processor with a bit of melted butter. Then press it into a pie dish and bake for 10-15 minutes to set.
What about Toppings?
This is where you can add a personal touch! Add whatever toppings you want, here are a few ideas:
- Whipped Cream
- Chopped Hazelnuts
- Chocolate Sprinkles
- Crushed Oreos
- Chocolate Shavings
- Ferrero Rochers
- Marshmallows
